Recording Video with my Canon 40D

The Canon 5D Mark II is not the only Canon DSRL camera that can record movies.  I found the software online to allow me to record movies on my camera via a USB cable.  I realize that most digital cameras can record video, but it’s a big deal for a digital SLR camera to record video because now I can use all my lenses, which means higher quality.

Here’s my first test sample.  Not much of a test and not very good lighting, but you can see the depth of field.  The main downsides are that is has to be attached to the computer, Windows only (although I am running Windows on my Mac), and no sound.

Boston / Cambridge: Day 3 & 4

Pretty uneventful two days.  I have been pretty content with just staying at my brother’s place working and watching TV.  Wednesday was definitely a miserable day as it pertains to weather.  The snow was great to see, but then it started to rain after that.  Snow + rain = slush.  I went to Dimitrios to get some food.  It’s right across the street from Stefani’s.  I will say that their food is better but the service or people at Stefani’s seem more friendlier.

The next day, more of the same thing.  The day after slush means more slush but icy side-walks.  I had lunch with my buddy David Liu.  We ate at Cinderella’s Italian Cuisine.  Good food there as well.  I would say that the Boston / Cambridge area has a lot of good food and very little fast-food restaraunts.  It was good to meet new people and see old friends today.  Some trainees are now in the area for the gospel trip.  They are going to be preaching the gospel tomorrow at Harvard.  I will be hopefully getting the rest of my work done for the week and hopefully get to talk to May via Skype.

Boston/Cambridge: Day 1 and 2 Completed

Well, nothing too much to report.  Just as I thought I would, I spent most of day one sleeping.  After some relaxing at my brother’s place watching TV, on the internet, etc, I went with my brother to eat some dinner at Stefani’s.  It was really good hot subs.  After that, we went to play some basketball at the Harvard MAC gym.  I hadn’t played basketball in probably three months.  There’s nothing like getting back into basketball by playing with some little Harvard kids.  Actually, not everyone was bad.  The middle court had some decent games, but man, the court we were on… probably one of the ugliest games I’ve ever been in.  I’ll spare the details.  We won 15-12, but it should have been 15-0.

Portland: Day 3

At the end of my trip. No pictures today but just a simple day. I made it to the Lord’s day meeting which was really sweet. The college age students were away so the numbers were kind of small. After the meeting we had lunch and just watched some basketball games. Of course one game was watching my Lakers win. After dinner we visited some saints and now I’m here at the airport. It might be a rough day. I have a red-eye flight with a layover in Atlanta in route to Boston. When I arrive I have to take the subway to the Cambridge meeting hall. We’ll see what happens. I don’t sleep well on planes either. I might spend my first day in Boston sleeping most of the time. We’ll see what happens.

Portland: Day 2

portland9Another great day in Portland.  Ben took me out to see the city.  Of course, first order of business was to get a beanie at REI.  After a small pizza lunch we drove around looking at different parts of the city.  We saw a lot of bridges of course and I got a few good pictures today.  We spent a little time at Powell’s Books, the largest independent used and new bookstore in the world.

Portland: First full day report

crownpointThe day started with a nice breakfast at the Cadillac Cafe.  After a quick stop by the Columbia Sport Outlet store, we made our way up Crown Point to see a nice view of the Columbia River Gorge.  When we got to the point and got out the car, all I have to say is windy!  I mean really windy!  Did I mention it was windy?  Actually it was the worst wind that I’ve ever been in by far.  I don’t even know why we were out there to be honest.  I just wanted to take a look and get the shot.
