{"id":1866,"date":"2014-06-09T13:57:56","date_gmt":"2014-06-09T17:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patrickchang.com\/blog\/?p=1866"},"modified":"2014-06-09T14:13:43","modified_gmt":"2014-06-09T18:13:43","slug":"body-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patrickchang.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/body-language\/","title":{"rendered":"Body Language"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I decided today that I would go\u00a0downtown to do some work. \u00a0As a freelancer, I basically work from any coffee shop with a decent internet connection. \u00a0My favorite coffee shop is <a href=\"http:\/\/thegoodkarmacafe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Good Karma Cafe<\/a>. \u00a0I like going to the Society Hill location, which is quite a journey, but if I&#8217;m going to be there the whole day, I might as well go to one that I feel that I can get a lot of work done. \u00a0My journey involves taking the trolley, switching to the subway, and then walking another 3-4 blocks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As I was waiting at the trolley stop, I began to observe this young lady and the way she carried herself. \u00a0Watching her, I realized that the way we conduct ourselves and our body language can really cause people to judge or make assumptions about who we are or wonder if there&#8217;s anything going on in our lives. \u00a0It is human nature to judge people, which doesn&#8217;t make it right, but regardless, we can&#8217;t help ourselves some times.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trolley was approaching and she began to walk to a spot where she thought the trolley was going to stop. \u00a0The trolley went about 15 feet past that spot and she had backtrack to get to the entrance. \u00a0From the look she gave, you could tell\u00a0she was a little annoyed. \u00a0The trolley had another 3-4 stops before getting to the stop I was getting off. \u00a0The lady was sitting in the aisle seat next to a young man. \u00a0When we got to one of the stops the man\u00a0next to her indicated this was his stop. \u00a0Her body language conveyed the same sense of annoyance, but stood up to let the man out and sat back down. \u00a0Body language speaks a lot, whether it really matches how we feel or who we are. \u00a0I even had to stop myself after few thoughts of &#8220;does everyone have to cater to this lady?&#8221; or &#8220;hello miss unhappy.&#8221; \u00a0First of all, who am I to judge this person? \u00a0Also, I have no idea what&#8217;s going in this person&#8217;s life. \u00a0Maybe she&#8217;s going through a rough stretch in her life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I realized something\u00a0from this short encounter. \u00a0Our body language speaks a lot, whether it speaks the truth or not, I don&#8217;t know. \u00a0It speaks all kinds of things, depending on who the recipient is. \u00a0Does this mean I&#8217;m going to be more careful in the way I carry myself? \u00a0I don&#8217;t know. \u00a0I don&#8217;t want to be fake either. \u00a0I do believe that our inward condition is manifested outwardly. \u00a0Some are better than others at hiding it, but that can only last for so long. \u00a0I guess what I&#8217;m saying is, instead of focusing so much on my outward expression, I should focus on my inward condition. \u00a0If I&#8217;m happy inwardly, it&#8217;ll automatically show outwardly. \u00a0What makes us happy inwardly?
